Teaching student athletes to love rugby
Encinitas Dragons Rugby Code of Conduct
Our Commitment
Encinitas Dragons Rugby is committed to providing a safe, competitive, positive and respectful environment where young players can develop their skills, enjoy rugby and learn the values of the game.
Everyone associated with the Dragons represents our Club and the wider rugby community. We expect respect, sportsmanship, humility and self-control always.
Players
Players are expected to:
-
Play hard and play fair, following the laws and spirit of rugby while always prioritizing safety.
-
Respect everyone involved in the game — teammates, opponents, coaches and officials. Referee decisions are to be accepted without argument, and Dragons players will shake hands with and thank the referee after every game.
-
Be a great teammate, supporting others, putting the team ahead of the individual and never engaging in bullying, intimidation, abuse or discriminatory behavior.
-
Show humility and sportsmanship — celebrate good play, be humble in victory and respectful in defeat.
-
Represent the Dragons with pride on and off the field.
Parents, Guardians & Supporters
Parents, guardians and supporters are expected to:
-
Keep the game about the kids, encouraging enjoyment, development, effort and teamwork rather than focusing solely on results.
-
Respect players, coaches, families and officials always. Abuse, intimidation or aggressive challenges toward referees or others will not be tolerated.
-
Let coaches coach, referees referee and kids play. Concerns should be raised through the appropriate Club channels, not publicly or during a game.
-
Model the behavior we expect from our players, including good sportsmanship, humility and respect in both victory and defeat.
-
Represent the Dragons positively, including at Club activities, away games and online/social media.
Coaches & Club Administrators
Coaches and administrators are expected to:
-
Put player safety, wellbeing and development first, providing an environment appropriate to players' age, ability and maturity.
-
Lead by example, demonstrating respect for players, families, opponents and officials and never publicly criticizing or arguing with a referee.
-
Develop both players and people, promoting teamwork, discipline, sportsmanship and respect while addressing bullying, abuse or inappropriate behavior.
-
Take the higher ground, particularly in difficult situations, and demonstrate humility in victory and respect in defeat.
-
Maintain all required coaching qualifications, background checks and Club/governing-body requirements.
The Dragons Standard
At every practice, game, tournament and Club event, we represent more than ourselves.
We want Encinitas Dragons to be recognized for competitive rugby played with respect, humility and integrity.
Acknowledgment
Behavior inconsistent with this Code may result in removal from a practice, game or Club activity and, depending on the severity or frequency, further disciplinary action including suspension, removal from the Club or restrictions on future participation.
